Dr. Scott J. Hymel

Dr. Scott Hymel is a New Orleans local and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Orleans. He did both MS and PhD research in Biomedical Engineering in Dr. Khismatullin's laboratory at Tulane University. His PhD work focused on computational modeling of cell deformation, migration, and separation in micro-channels using the VECAM algorithm.  Particularly, he modeled cell separation and sorting in bifurcating micro-channels, cell motion and deformation in cross-flow micro-channels (microfluidic deformability cytometry), cell deformation during motion in micro-channels with constrictions, and cell separation in micro-channels with pillars. Scott also worked on the development of computational models of blood flow in patient-specific artery geometries containing atherosclerotic plaques. He successfully defended his PhD dissertation in April 2020.
