Dr. Hongzhi Lan

Dr. Hongzhi Lan is from Guizhou province of China. He received a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, and worked for a few years as a Java software developer at Synnex Corp. in Beijing. In 2009, he joined Dr. Khismatullin's laboratory at Tulane University as a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. His PhD work focused on the development of the VECAM and VECAM-Active algorithms for cell deformation, migration, and adhesion modeling. He applied VECAM to simulate the lateral migration of leukocytes and hydrodynamic pairwise interactions of cells in a micro-channel. He also tested VECAM-Active for the simulation of adherent cell spreading and pseudopodia formation. Hongzhi successfully defended his PhD dissertation in December 2013.
