Girls in STEM at Tulane (GIST)

Tulane University’s GIST Program, organized by the Center For K-12 STEM Education, provides fifth through seventh grade girls with the opportunity to meet and work with women role models in STEM fields. Chemistry workshops provided by the Jayawickramarajah Group encourage and empower girls to inquire, investigate, and discover in a positive environment. Our goal is to open the doors wide and welcome young students to careers in STEM fields by encouraging creative thinking, promoting self-esteem, and increasing awareness of the opportunities that await them.

Boys at Tulane in STEM (BATS)

Similar to GiST, BATS aims to provide fifth through seventh grade boys opportunities to meet and work with role models in STEM fields. The Jayawickramarajah Group encourages students to explore new topics and ask questions about science through hands on activities and sharing our own career interests. We encourage students to think creatively, promote self-esteem, and introduce students to new opportunities.
