About
Research
Our work focuses on the importance of resilience after adversity. What creates strong, resilient communities of people who have been faced with natural disasters, abuse, and violence? We want to find out how this impacts individuals' development and well-being. Further, we want to ensure the results can be reproduced and translated into policies and prevention.
Team
Long-term Impact in Research
We are focused on building a strong foundation that can create long-term impact.
Priorities have included:
- strengthening research momentum and future funding opportunities
- mentoring students and trainees
- deepening collaboration across Tulane
- contributing national expertise in child and family psychology
- advancing teaching and academic leadership
- developing community partnerships
- representing the chair with seriousness and purpose
The first year has been about building carefully, with an eye toward sustainable growth.
The next chapter of stewardship builds on that prior experience and includes:
- expanding research growth and external funding
- strengthening mentorship pipelines for students
- building interdisciplinary partnerships
- producing policy-relevant scholarship
- increasing national visibility for Tulane psychology
- creating work that improves children’s and families’ lives
Approach
Our Research Approach
Our work builds upon itself to create lasting change; through education, community involvement, mentorship, research, and policy.
Research
Looking at the effects of child maltreatment or adversity in early childhood and beyond.
Mentorship
Educating the next generation of professionals in the field of psychology. We accept undergraduate research assistants and graduate students in our lab.
Community
Our research is the product of the communities we serve. We ensure that those who participate have a voice in how our projects are created, and that they encompass the unique voices of those most at risk.
Funding
Funding
Dr. Jackson's work is currently funded by the Lila L. and Douglas J. Hertz Endowment. This endowment is a wonderful opportunity to steward in new and exciting directions for well-being, mentorship, and community development. As such, I am taking this role seriously by developing relationships within the community, university, and profession while designing ethical and sustainable organizational impacts. That means protecting the integrity of the position, representing Tulane with professionalism, investing in students, building strong research programs, and creating work that has real value beyond campus walls.
